The ADRs don't move proportionally, but I agree it isn't a big thing. The move's the thing. If you can get that right , you won't care about a little under performance. There is also a liquidity premium to pay especially when things are hectic and , of course, that's when you want to transact. I don't like investment funds, but unless you're very experienced with foreign markets, the best way to go is the Japan Fund. ADRs must be held in street name at a bank. The banks charge a custodial fee.
