I perhaps went to a less genteel jr. high. The use of the
p-word was common, as well as the use of such phrases as
"you're a girl", and words like pansy to refer to boys that
were being downed. They were used both by boys and
the male staff.

What I was trying to get at is the why. I understand that it
is a negative opposed to the burgeoning manhood of the
adolesant. I don't understand why to reinforce and encouraging
desirable qualities of manhood that the female is used as
negative, a being that is less than. Particularly at a time
when boys are not just becoming men, but becoming interested
in young women.

I think perhaps the reluctance not to use the phrase in the
presense of girls might have had more to do with not wanting
them to realize they were being used as an insult and
thereby deminishing the chances of getting some.
