Emulex Continues to Lead Fibre Channel Industry Benchmarks With Announcement of LP7000E
COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 23, 1998--
Enhanced Hardware and Device Driver Architectures Provide in
Excess of 20,000 I/O Operations Per Second
Emulex Corp. (NASDAQ:EMLX), an industry leader in fibre channel products and technology, Thursday announced availability of the LightPulse LP7000E, an enhanced version of its LP7000 Fibre Channel PCI Host Bus Adapter for enterprise storage and networking applications.
Utilizing enhancements to the LP7000's "Superfly" architecture along with a newly developed Windows NT device driver, the LP7000E provides an unprecedented 20,000 I/O operations per second from a single PCI host bus adapter.
With on-board data buffering, the LP7000E also maintains high levels of data throughput performance in large configurations or over extended link distances. Industry standard benchmark testing has shown LP7000E throughput performance over 10 kilometer links to be more than double that of competitive products.
"The I/O performance of the LP7000E and its ability to maintain performance in large configurations provides groundbreaking functionality to OEMs, system integrators, and IT administrators looking to significantly increase levels of overall system performance," said Mike Kane, marketing director for Emulex.
"These performance enhancements are particularly useful for heavily used database servers, on-line transaction processing applications, or distributed workgroup environments using shared storage access."
Designed to support mission critical enterprise applications in networked storage, clustering and high performance network links, the LP7000E provides the industry's widest set of operating features including support for all fibre channel topologies and classes of service, and both SCSI and LAN protocols. In addition, the LP7000E provides full backward compatibility with custom software drivers written to Emulex's LP6000 "Service Level Interface" specifications, and supports Emulex's broad family of standard operating system drivers, including Windows NT, Solaris, AIX, NetWare, and UnixWare.
Benchmark testing over 10 kilometer links has shown that while the throughput of competitive products drops to less than 35 megabytes per second, the LP7000E maintains a performance of over 75 megabytes per second in the identical configuration.
The LP7000E joins Emulex's broad family of fibre channel product offerings addressing the needs of both mission critical enterprise applications and direct connect storage links. In addition to the LP7000E, targeted at enterprise class applications, Emulex offers the LP3000, which supports high-speed direct-connect storage applications with the industry's lowest cost fibre channel arbitrated loop host adapter and the LP3000DC, the industry's first dual channel fibre channel adapter. Emulex also provides arbitrated loop hubs supporting both copper DB9 and multimode optical connections.
Initial evaluation units of the LP7000E are shipping now. Production availability is planned for June. The host adapter is available with a copper DB9 interface and a non-OFC multimode optic interface. A single-mode optic interface will be available for samples in June. Single unit pricing for the LP7000E with copper interface is $1,495.
