Lee, you and I must share the same brain, because those are my thoughts exactly. We have been hearing a steady drumbeat of negative forecasts from various bears on this thread. The gist of what they were saying is that Compaq's problems portended industry-wide earnings problems. I think that Waite's first quarter results neatly put that to rest. When you couple what GTW has done with the statements coming out of Dell, it is clear to me that what we are seeing is a major change in the market place. (oh oh! Here comes another one of those paradigm shifts!).

So, let's add up what we have:

1. Gateway has a blow-out quarter and credits tight inventory management and direct selling as the keys;

2. Dell is expanding plants world-wide;

3. Intel says business is resurgent in Asia;

4. Michael Dell says: "What price war?".

I've probably left some stuff out, but this is hardly a bearish scenario. [Wouldn't you agree Lucretius Taurus and Jim Patterson?]

Anyhow, enough of my inane cheerleading. Got to go sharpen my claws for the next bear!

CTC
