NEW Productivity OPTIONS Enhance Pinnacle Systems DEKO Family of Character GENERATORS

Collection of New Options, Plus 3.1 Software Upgrade, Plus Deko's Open Platform Design, Make Pinnacle's CG Family One of the Industry's Most Versatile and Powerful Solutions

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 23, 1998-Pinnacle Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: PCLE), a leading provider of professional broadcast
solutions based on the Windows NTr platform, today formally announced several new options for the company's DekoT Character
Generators, which are BroadNeTT compliant and designed to enhance the workflow of content creation for on-air broadcast. These new
capabilities enhance productivity, and include an option which allows users to read Chyronr files. The company also announced a software
upgrade, Deko version 3.1.

"These new options are really significant," said Kevin Prince, Pinnacle's Deko Graphics Business Manager. "They make on-air graphics creation as simple as point, click, and pop-and even better, allow our users to import Chyron on-air looks. This is truly innovative because it gives Deko users the dynamic flexibility to work with files that heretofore were proprietary, and unusable outside of the Chyron environment."

"With BroadNeT, and exclusive options such as Chyron import, Pinnacle has extended its commitment to open standards broadcasting," Prince added.

New Options
Chyron File Conversion. Deko character generators now have the ability to import Chyron files. This software option requires that users upgrade to Deko 3.1, a new release announced today. This option empowers users to import looks created on Chyron, and bring them into the Deko environment. Pinnacle Systems CGs will read RGBA and fully-editable message files created by any member of the InfinitT family, as well as converting logo fonts into a Deko Custom Typeface.

Deko SportsWareT, allows the easy insertion of text for on-air situations. SportsWare lets users "POP" a text selection onto existing CG page. Typical applications for Deko SportsWare are live sporting venues such as hockey, golf, or basketball. Image elements, such as name or team can be merged and composed right up to air-it's as easy as a single keystroke

"SportWare is a real timesaver. For example, in a hockey game, when player #20 gets a five-minute roughing penalty, a Deko user running the SportsWare option can quickly call up the player's name and the penalty statistics with a minimal number of keystrokes. With SportWare, popping information is really easy," Prince added.

StillDeko option with LightningT Browse Integration
The StillDeko option now includes Pinnacle's Lightning Browse software that enables users to access the powerful Lightning
Browse image management tools to store and retrieve their CG files. This integration also permits Deko files to be stored directly
onto the hard drive of Pinnacle's Lightning image management systems, and brings powerful database management tools to the Deko
user. Additionally, StillDeko offers users the option to communicate directly with FTP servers and network file system, and gives
them the ability to browse directories and manipulate images from other manufacturer's databases, including Quantel.
