Unitec is pleased to announce receipt of its first order for gas wellhead monitoring and control for the Alberta oil and gas industry. AFI, Inc. President and Unitec Director, Ed Rusnak advised that the Company's UIC-IP intelligent protocol was a key factor in winning this award from RJV Gas Field Services Ltd., a major Alberta fabricator of well site production facilities. The system will monitor and control a number of new wells and will tie in several existing wells which have
experienced communications difficulties due to terrain and field conditions, to provide a high reliability Gas Field SCADA System. Communications has been a historical problem for the application of Radio SCADA due to the remoteness of the well sites, hills and other obstacles which make the traditional radio communications techniques intermittent and unreliable. Unitec's UIC-IP protocol embeds intelligence in the radio signal allowing it to dynamically route through the best and shortest path insuring consistent and reliable communications.
RJV selected Unitec's product as it provided a major solution to their customer's monitoring problems in the growing Gas SCADA market. Entrepreneur of the Year award winner, John Iftody, President of RJV and his technical staff were sufficiently impressed with the Unitec solution that they are taking a major initiative to upgrade exisitng installations with the Unitec product and installing Unitec as their system of choice for new applications.
Close to 14,000 gas wells are expected to be drilled in Alberta in the next year, of which 70% historically become productive. An estimated 50% of these wells will require a monitoring system, many of which are located in areas where radio communications problems can be solved with the Unitec UIC-IP intelligent communications system.
