Jim, >>>What he says is irrelevant in the long run, either he is right or he is wrong,<<<

In this case there is no "right" or "wrong" answer. A lot of it is a matter of perception. Ultimately the question is what should Intel's valuation be. Should it be selling at discount to the market? Should it be selling for less than half MSFT PE. Should a company with 50% margins be valued alongsdide of cyclical dinasaurs? Why shouldn't Intel sell for 25-35 pe?

These are all matters of perception. Kurlak and Merrill Lynch in thier efforts to move Intel up and or down is impacting investor pscyhology wrt to valuation.

Kurlak and Merrill don't give a rats*ss what ultimately happens to Intel - so long as they can move Intel - up or down - to their own advantange.

They have found the ultimate sucker in Intel in that they allow this to happen. No one else would put up with this. Not Coke, not GE, not Gillette, not Dell, Not Compaq, Not MSFT........not anybody (worthwhile).
