I was thinking about your comment on options from the other day...
The volume is tremendous relative to the equities they currently provide; the data is sparse and not nearly as reliable; the sources of data are diverse;
If you take a look at the WSJ or IBD you'll quickly see that the stock pages are many times that of the option pages. Options are covered in about 2 full pages. Of course these are not "all" options, but are those that are trading. That's all QP would need to do.
As far as the data being "sparse and not nearly as reliable", I'm not sure this is correct either. I don't know, of course, but I do know that most (all?) options I'd be interested in are issues of "The Options Clearing Corporation". This is every option traded at the AMEX, CBOE, NYSE, PSE and Philadelphia. It also covers options traded on the European Options Exchange in Amsterdam. The data are readily available. And, it's probably as accurate and reliable as the equity quotes we all get each day. Those are far from error free, for a number of reasons.
I agree with you about QP serving their existing niche very well. I'd say they do a superior job and I don't even subscribe. But, I stand by my earlier statements, it can't be too difficult to add options. On the other hand, it doesn't seem to be a big deal to current users, so I may be way off base here in my expectations.
I'd like to see QP survey their users just to see if this would be a welcome addition to anyone but me <G>.
