All this rhetoric about what Borland was is worthless relative to where the company is intending to go.

There are some who might be tempted to say that Borland's future is also rhetoric at this moment. The best intentions in the world - and the outline of their strategy that we have seen so far is quite logical and reasonable - do not guarantee success. I have seen little evidence so far that this company has shed its shrink-wrapped mentality in favour of corporate sales, except for the rhetoric.

Incidentally, although confusion reigns over the revenue split Borland/Visigenic, it is not entirely the media's fault. There are good enough reasons for Borland's revenue to have fallen, not least being their decision to introduce an additional layer into their US distribution channel. Properly explained, with details less vague than "six figure deals", the whole revenue picture could have been far more intelligently presented.
