Thank you, superdow. The market making process is described in the thread "analysis class for beginners". Titled "market making" In general, The market makers and the specialists are the bridge to brokerages for stock trades that the brokerages are not able to handle. If the brokerages can handle the trades at their trading desks or clearing house; then the trades all occur in house.
