Vartan, Kerm: re multicorp. Globe and Mail March 22 1996 has
an article today on Multicorp of Alberta.
It employs abt 60 people in Calgary and Hong Kong, in 2 divs--telecomm and
computer sw. Scandal over 10 k shares donated. Minor issue.
SW division offers their Ziran system to let Asians input written language
at faster rate (80 chars per minute). MC has landed deal to install its
Ziran sw on 450 000 computers in Chicom school system. It also sells the product
at retail level. MC also has inhouse pgm to xlate english into chinese and
vv. And has developed a browser to let ideographic lang users (chi/jap) access
the internet easier. Some see massive profit in all 3 ares.
--------
end of article. SEE article in www.cdn-news.com on Multi-Corp March 13.96. for
terrific details on ZEL and the chicom contract.

---------personal and valueless comment:
If you are interested, drop by your local sw vendor. In Toronto we
see all sorts of chi-english programs. MC may actually be the best of
vendors of this sort, but is prob'ly not the only. As for latin to ideographic
keyboarding, this is reeeeeally old hat. IBM Japan has done this stochastic
character synonym selection for years. Not original to IBM of course.
The Ziran system still works (I assume) on phonetics. You enter a code such as
MA, which in Mandarin (or is it Cantonese?) can mean horse or scolding woman,
or a couple other chars. The favored chars pop up and you pick one.
Big deal. High tech. :-).... I was familiar with programs like that
some 5 or 10 years ago in IBM. But IBM maybe does not understand that market
as well as MultiCorp does.
It isnt always the pioneer that wins.
MCUaf on nasdaq closed at 7.12 up .25. Headin' sideways?
happy pinyin
