I, personally, will not be in any mutual funds or stocks for the last 6 months of 1999. If I buy any stocks at the time, it will be day trading. I don't want to get caught by the panic that will undoubtedly (IMO) be caused by fear of the year 2000 bug. The problem, as stated, is the rest of the world. North America is a minor worry, it's just the rest of the world that really scares me. Panic somewhere will filter down through the global market we now have to deal with. We will have a better idea around 3-4 months before 2000, or possibly even at the beginning of 1999. To me it is not worth the risk, no matter how much assurance we will get from governments and business.
