Valueman, Bill H., and Maurice,

The more I read through the detail of IRIDF's cost structure, The more I think that the "real cost" of IRIDF system is at $6.6 billion (3.45+2.88+.284 billion) and up. It could be at $7.94 billion (6.6 +1.33 billion) and up. The 5 years contract term is to spread out the payment for this $2.88 billion amount.

It is not $4.4 billion (payment to date of 12/31/97). It is not $5.3 billion because it mentions net of assumed revenue by the year end of 1999. It indicates that will be the last year which IRIDF has the negative cash inflow. (This also implies that IRIDF has to wait until the beginning of year 2000 to recoup the $5.3 billion while the sats only have 3 to 5 (not even sure) years life span left. WOW!!! I am sure IRIDF has to charge a lot per minute to recover its cost ASAP.

See the post or IRIDF's 10 K:

What do you think? Comments please.

On the other hand, GSTRF's total cost on 12/31/97 is estimated at $2.7 billion (excluding $175 million - 8 spare sats.). We also do not know the operating expenses each year on two GOCC and two SOCC after the whole system is up for running. (I remembered I read it somewhere about the operating expenses. I can not find it now) Costs overrun is inevitable? Do you guys have any comment?
