>>>I've done time w/ Ameritrade (horrible), and it sure sounds that Waterhouse does not want you to short stock (you have to tell them that you did a cover buy!)<<<

Hey! Waterhouse finally put a "buy to cover" option on their order page. It still takes minutes to check availability on a short, even for the most liquid of issues. You can't blame them for wanting to make sure they have thinly traded stocks such as INTC and DELL available to borrow, can you?

Someone wanted to hear a Datek feel good story. Well, I was able to short PNDA and MARG since I've moved my funds there, and hope I'll be doing a little KTEL tomorrow. No way I would have gotten the first two, and couldn't even have any hope for the third at Waterhouse.

Still, the delay this morning "cost" me money, because I wanted to short even more MARG when it was above 15. The price was down to 13 by the time I was able to get executed. I must admit that I chose Datek over MB Trading because of the "higher" commissions at MB. Well, if I average the "loss" from this morning into my trades for the last month, Datek is suddenly 10/trade more expensive, and I'm paying for Level II on top of it.

I think MB Trading is my next stop.
