Joe,
Did the author of your story get the grammar wrong? He writes:
> ...to feed the exponential growth, chip makers will also have to spend at an exponential growth rate on new factories. While the specter of multibillion-dollar chip plants may give pause, in the short run at least this process is fueling a crucial sector of the semiconductor equipment industry.<

Something is wrong with the last sentence in the clip above. The switch to .25 micron line width and 300mm wafer sizes is "not" currently fueling a crucial sector. Isn't this what you have been generally saying the last few months? I tended to agree. The capital spending has been delayed substantially because of overcapacity, falling prices, and now the latest, under $1,000 PCs.

If you take the author literally, he is almost trying to call a turn in the market. It's a little early, don't you think? I've been long on AMAT and KLAC for over two years now so I'm eagerly awaiting the next "turn." Been way down. Been way up. Been way down. Now I'm waiting for the "way up" cycle where I think I will reduce my exposure and try to catch the cycles instead of riding them up and down. So that's why article, you just linked us to, got my interest.
Thanks,
MikeM(From Florida)
