Mr Kenneth Friedman reports
Results have been received from preliminary metallurgical test work on the
company's Macusani uranium project in Peru.
Two types of ore were tested: the pure autunite, which outcrops in a number of
locations throughout the district; and the disseminated mineralization near the
autunite veins.
The autunite (65% U3O8), showed excellent leach efficiency, exceeding 97%.
While acid consumption was high, 1,459 lb of sulphuric acid per ton of autunite,
this corresponds to a cost of less than $0.03 per pound of yellowcake (at $50 per
ton for sulphuric acid).
Initial test work on the lower grade disseminated mineralization (3.6%
yellowcake) showed a recovery of 55% in just 12 hours. This is a good result for
an initial test. A longer leach time, as well as the optimization of the process to the
ore, will increase recoveries.
Strathmore is continuing its activities in Peru where the widespread outcrops of
autunite support the International Atomic Energy Agency's estimate of 50 million
to 120 million pounds of yellowcake in the Macusani uranium district. The
company is also continuing its program of acquiring uranium projects in the
western US, where its drill-indicated mineralization is nearly 40 million pounds of
uranium oxide.
