David,

Flea bites can also cause anemia in your pet, which condition can be quite stubborn and resistant to treatment. Fleas also spread bubonic plague and other dread diseases from animals to humans. Bubonic plague is still with us in urban and suburban pockets where animals and humans come to enjoy nature together.

Another helpful household hint you might want to try is to cut that flea collar up and put in your vacuum cleaner bag. Such was quite effective for me. That said, I would never allow an animal to wear a flea collar. Not only are they largely ineffective against fleas but can be harmful to animals and humans. I myself have seen fleas strolling with aplomb and impunity across uncut flea collars.
