####OFF TOPIC####

derek we have been having this conversation on and off for a while... it just rears itself in different ways... the two societies you hold up as an example are among the most exploitative in the world, the gap between rich an poor is mind-rottingly unfair, and as a result niether place has any domestic demand to speak of, and is completely at the mercy of demand in the developed nations. In both places there is little freedom of speach or action, and in Singapore (which I have lived in) culture is demolished in the name of morality in the name of the market. Singapore also subsidizes huge swathes of its domestic industries. I absolutely believe that government intervention in the markets creates efficancies, and that the ratio of sucessful intervention is astonishing under Clinton Rubin and Greenspan... It is in my opinion no coincidence that the longest post war boom is the result of the most inteligent management of the economy... and a great deal of luck
