(Clarification Of March 2 News) - Secured Communication Inc. (SC) And Snare Networks Corporation Announce Joint Alliance To Develop High Speed Peer-To-Peer Secure Network Solutions
SCI and Snare Networks announced a joint alliance today to market, high speed, high security Internet/Intranet/Extranet solutions. The technology alliance takes advantage of Snare's proven peer-to-peer network software, and SCI's Triple-DES (data encryption standard) accelerator cards to provide ultra secure communication in today's rapidly evolving cyberspace world. SCI and Snare Networks will undertake joint marketing efforts to increase the penetration of these secure network products in the United States, Canada and Internationally.

"SCI and Snare Networks see an opportunity to deliver very powerful secure communication technology at a price that is attractive to large and medium-sized customers on the public information superhighway" said Stan Zawadowicz, CEO of Secured Communications. "This combination of technologies allows corporate customers to take full advantage of the Internet's low communication costs while maintaining very secure and administration-free applications in such areas as mobile salesforce automation, SOHO and electronic commerce." Customers can also take advantage of IBM's Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) and web server solutions supplied by Snare's value added resellers layered on top of the SCI-Snare high-speed, peer-to-peer network security solution.

About the SCI Crypto-Accelerator Board
SCI is designing and producing a triple-DES block cipher PCI accelerator board that will encrypt and decrypt data files at a speed of 10 Mb/s. This accelerator card will function in the PC Microsoft OS environment (Windows 95/98 and Windows NT) and it will support Snare Network's SnareNetT peer-to-peer network security system. SCI will design an ASIC-based solution that maximizes this performance at very attractive price points for the Internet/Intranet/Extranet markets of today and tomorrow. SCI anticipates availability of its Accelerator Card in the third quarter of 1998. Prototypes employing existing chip technology are available now. Both companies have signed a preliminary agreement valued at $2 million US in which SCI will supply Snare Networks a substantial quantity of these Accelerator Boards for resale and deployment to Snare Network's customers. SCI will also market the device directly in selected cryptographic application-specific environments.

Today's Internet/Intranet/Extranet demands high speed transparent security solutions that offer truly encryption-robust solutions. Single DES protection, the existing standard, is becoming increasingly vulnerable to attack by sophisticated hackers worldwide. As reported at the RSA Data Security Conference in San Francisco in January, 56 bit key lengths such as single DES are vulnerable to well-funded adversaries and large organizations (government or corporate espionage, organized crime, teams of amateurs). Triple-DES 112 bit key lengths, however, provide very powerful protection against brute force attacks. With the number of keys at 10 raised to the 33rd power in triple-DES, the average search time is 30 trillion years using today's most powerful cracking engines!

With this protection comes significant demand on CPU time to encrypt and decrypt files. Only cryptographic peripheral hardware solutions, that relieve the burden on CPUs, offer a viable solution. Such solutions offer very high encryption speeds, a necessary precursor that ensures user transparency of operation. The SCI-Snare solution is designed to meet that need with a robust and cost-effective solution.

Both companies also anticipate undertaking joint marketing efforts to increase the marketing penetration of their respective products and services in both the United States and Canada. Security and cryptography are becoming increasingly main stream issues among the computer user community. Although the Internet/Intranet/Extranet continues to provide compelling low cost connectivity, powerful low-cost security is still not widely available. Snare Networks and SCI provide cost-effective transparent utility solutions that can be incorporated at the computer manufacturing level, greatly increasing the availability and ubiquity of secure connections.
