Pat, <Just for the sake of debate, who do you think could challenge Cisco? Do you see any mergers occurring that would have that kind of synergy? What if Lucent bought Ascend, would that do it? What about LU and BAY? How about Nortel-NN? In other words, what combination would have that sort of strength?> That is the $1 million question. Just my opinions but here goes: A Nortel-Shiva-Cabletron-Fore mix, Lucent-Bay, 3Com-Newbridge Networks-Alcatel, Lucent-Ascend-Cabletron, Alcatel-Xylan-Ascend. You could mix and match a few of these combinations and obviously eliminate others. As always you have a few other major players like Nokia and Ericcson who also are interested in jumping into the party. Like I said these are just ideas! Cheers, Steve
