Howdy Jimmy, say...I got a few questions here cuz I'm trying to understand what you're saying. Now, you'll probably have to take it slow cuz' I didn't git no CS edukation like you...so here goes:

Over here you say: Message 4196313

"...rather than calling every maker of every product that you have on your PC. wouldn't it be nice to run ONE program that will tell you which files need to be updated and and where to find the patch..."

and over here you say: Message 4194981

"...If a FIX is not available at the time that the software is packaged then it will have a code in it to inform the user that he/she needs to contact the company and it should provide the company's name/phonenumber/address/website/etc..."

Now over here on at: 11th-hoursw.com

There a telling me: "The technical problems are either too diverse or there are laws preventing anyone other than the original authors from fixing the problem. In other words no one but Microsoft is capable of, or for that matter allowed to, fix Microsoft software and no one but NOVELL can fix NOVELL software."

Well now heck, that sounds like these companys want to keep some kinda quality assurance control over their patches. And if'n they wanna do that, then it shore don't sound like they're gonna be wanting to mix it in with a bunch of other stuff on a third party CD...heck, what if the fixes made by the Novell patch (just as an example) were to accidentally get hosed by the Microsoft patch or do ya suppose they're gonna leave it to chance that the 11th Hour software works perfectly 100% and ain't gonna gum up the works somehow?

Now, as a CS major working on that there server stuff - (completely versed in how to install a Lexmark printer driver no less - you must be pretty big league!) maybe you can tell me how this can or cannot happen?

Or do ya think that to limit liability the companies might prefer to just keep the patches under their control on their website? Shoot I dunno. Well tar me upside the shed if that don't sound like you need to go out and contact all them companies yerself just like you said. Now let's see. I can go out and contact all them companies by visiting there website or calling them -- or I can buy the 11th Hour software so it can tell me to go out and contact all them companies by visiting there website or calling them. Golly, sounds like six, one-half dozen, or another to me.

Maybe your technical expertise can fill in what I'm missing - I shore hope so cuz to date, every time I ask you something technical, you keeps refurring me to the Soup maskot girl. And heck if I know why the soup maskot girl would know more than you about how some of this technical stuff works.

Take care, good buddy =)
