I'll throw my personal two cents in here. My best friend from grade school, throughout high school, had the same experience. She had been in complete remission for well over five years when I saw her at the last reunion a few years ago, and she looked and felt better than most of us there. <vbg> I talk to her every now and again and we write.

She was very sick twice with her disease, twice going into remission, over about a twelve-year period. I think what sets her apart is the very determined and positive spirit which she maintained throughout her ordeal, and her all-encompassing will to live.
