Michael, Thanks, I can verify that a fast HD has a lot to do with system resonse. Let's face it. These big name boxes like Packard Bell, Compaq, IBM and maybe HP (since you know more than I) are NOT speed demons compared to what you can buy mail order or make yourself. Take for instance the Compaq 4540 K6-233 machine reviewed in this months Computer Shopper. The slowest machine they reviewed. Not because of the K6 but they were using an Intel VX chipset in the mobo and a Quantum "slow"foot hard drive. Jim
