Has anyone heard of a french company which is planning to use
the national power grid as a network ?? a friend of mine keeps telling me about this but he cannot remember its name.

I don't know the French company, but in the UK, Energis --- spinoff from National Grid Group (formerly London Electricity) --- is already using the power grid as a network. Their biggest customer is the BBC and they have two complete systems in case one goes down.
