The most dramatic year-to-year change occurred in the Americas market, which experienced a 19.4 percent increase in sales from July 1996 to July 1997.(I am focusing on sales in the Americas, but Global semiconductor sales which exceeded $11.61 billion in July, a 13.3 percent increase over the July 1996 sales mark of$10.24 billion will also be mentioned).
Sales in the Americas market were $3.845 billion in July 1997, compared to $3.220 billion in July 1996. Sales in the Asia-Pacific market hit $2.531 billion in July 1997, a 16.1 percent increase over sales in July 1996.On a year-to-year basis, sales also jumped in Europe, increasing by 12.4 percent from $2.043 billion in July 1996 to $2.297 billion in July 1997. On a month-to-month comparison, global chip sales rose 1.8 percent inJuly 1997 -- a $202 million increase -- from June 1997. The largest increase surfaced in Japan, where sales grew 6.4 percent from $2.761 billion inJune 1997 to $2.937 billion in July 1997.
