I really get pissed when people talk about these royalties.
THIS TECHNOLOGY IS NOT FREE. Much money and risk were spent producing the methods.
If you want to use it, you must pay for it, and you must pay the people who own the patents.
VISX and SUMMIT maybe didn't charge ENOUGH if you look at the Net from operations since their respective FDA approvals. If PPP dies, I still think a laser user will end up paying two fees, one to Visx and one to Beam.
Also, look at the fees. $250 as a fee for an operation that cost somewhere from $1500 to $2000. PPP is not exactly the major cut in the distribution - you better look at the Docs a bit and ask Why?
