Article from New York Times, Sat, Apr. 25: "BETHESDA, Md., April 24 -- About 100 scientists from drug companies, academia and the Food and Drug Administration me in a hotel here today to ask a pressing question: If Viagra or a drug like it works in women, how would you know?"
"... if a drug like Viagra is effective in women as well as in men who have sexual difficulties, what looks like a huge market could be doubled."
[Some discussion of what "female impotence" would be like, how you would measure it, etc.]
[Article goes on to describe tests currently being used on women using phentolamine, made by Zonagen in The Woodlands, Tex., a drug that is now under considerations, in pill form, to be a competitor to Viagra's. Women watch pornographic videos while wearing special tampons to measure their blood flow. Apparently some relevant physiological response. Other doctors are prescribing it even without evidence. Also tests of "a Viagra- like drug". ]
Sounds like good progress. |
