I can only use VISX as an example. Many of their supporters held off from purchasing BEAM machines until VISX got FDA approval, and after their approval, there was a huge increase in sales for a few quarters.
After they serviced the backlog, they have never gotten to those levels since.
For the near future, undoubtedly, Visx will sell machines, but I'm sure everyone has revised their projections of the level of sales.
You can bet other companies are putting strategies together to cut into the market.
As for Summit, they have to be looking for a leap into future markets by supplementing their installed base with a buyout of new technology. Why develop a better machine when you can buy it?
Don't be surprised if you get two news-breaks soon - New laser approved by FDA for PRK procedures, and Summit merges with new company.
