David, you know a lot more about vacuuming and vacuum cleaners than I ever will!! Housework is something I avoid like the plague, until I start tripping over floor detritus or there aren't any clean dishes left. It is basically tidy here, and pretty, with fresh flowers and stuff, but I wouldn't run my fingers over any picture frame tops or look at anything too closely. My husband is ALWAYS disappointed when he does that.

I am not sure what to say about flea collars. They seem illogically designed, since fleas do not really congregate around a cat's neck. They don't work very well, and I have never found a vet who recommended them. Certainly, I am very conservative about toxic chemicals of any kind, and would not want to take the chance. When your vet said he hadn't seem many cats get sick from them, was he implying that a few do? The incidence of several types of cancers is already quite high in cats, and I just would feel very bad if my cat one of the ones who was harmed. Most fleas live in your house, not on your cat, as I am sure you know, since you seem very knowledgeable on this subject. So getting rid of them in the carpets and furniture seems like the best way to attack the problem.
