Dennis,

Fabs used to take at least 2 years from first shovel in ground to first test wafer. Equipment had to go into the clean room as the clean room was being built or at least a year before first test wafer through the fab.

Those lead times are significantly shortened. I believe a recent press release for a large fab was about a year from start construction to start production. Clearly, there will be 300mm sales well in advance of 2002 as the various chipmakers evaluate various suppliers and perfect their processes. In terms of huge growth in business due to new 300mm fabs, that's beginning to sound like it will be 2001 or 2002.

I have no idea when the stock prices will begin to reflect that potential. (There are some on this thread who think it already has. VBG). But whenever that train leaves the station, Gottfried, I do intend to be on it. Until it leaves, I'll just have to find other ways to relieve my boredom. I hear bear-baiting can sometimes be fun.
