Michael, Newt went into the hospital room with his two little children and a yellow legal pad to talk about the divorce. His wife was coming out of anaesthesia from cancer surgery. Later he didn't pay his child support, and his wife's church had to take a collection for them. I don't mean to be boringly repetitious, which I am guilty of because I posted these same facts earlier today, but I just cannot help myself.
What part of that behavior can you justify? I know that his wife was older than he was, and I believe she was a teacher. How could what kind of relationship they had excuse this kind of behavior? I am particularly surprised, because you are always talking about the importance of fathers taking care of their children in a responsible way.

For the record, I never spat on any American soldiers coming home from Viet Nam. I felt very sorry for them. Many of them were very damaged from their war experiences, and live on the city streets here now. I don't think the United States really took very good care of them. I believe that anyone who fought for his country should always have enough veterans' benefits so that he can afford housing, for example, and that excellent medical and psychological care should be provided as well. I did beg young men not to go to Viet Nam, however, outside recruiting offices, and I am very proud of doing that for my country.
