Well, certainly the information you cited explains the connection between risk-taking behavior and curiosity about drugs. Are you familiar with Dr. Charles Tart of U.C. Davis? He is a rather noted professor of abnormal psychology, who has written some books and articles on this subject, if I remember correctly. I took several of the courses he taught while I went to school there.

My husband read a book recently, "The Sign and the Seal", by Graham Hancock, about the quest for the Lost Ark of the Covenant, which resides in Ethiopia, apparently. One striking thing about the book was the discussion that psychedelic drugs were widely used in ancient times, and may account for some of the miracles which were thought to have occurred. If I get time to read the book, I will certainly come back here and discuss it in more detail later.
