From a major distributor:

In reply to your E-mail of March 31, 1998...Returns of the Wand had
originally been attributed to the fact that the item had a free 30-day trial
period, but a recent letter from the manufacturer, to Dentists owning the
Wand, indicates a potential problem for practitioners using specific
brands of anesthetic. The letter reads as follows...
"Milestone Scientific designed a system to be compatible with all
anesthetic cartridges on the market. However, new developments in
cartridge performance came to our attention when the final production
product was tested. There are some inconsistencies and variables in
manufacturing and materials that make some cartridges more suitable
than others. Variations in the size of the target area in the aluminum seal
and in the consistency of thr rubber membrane can affect the ability of
the Wand Cartridge Holder spike to penetrate the membrane. We are
notifying you of our test results so you can adjust your cartridge usage
accordingly."
"Our recent tests show minimal piercing inconsistency in the
following cartridges when used with the Wand:
SEPTODONT NOVOCOL PATTERSON SCHEIN
DARBY CARLISLE MEER DENTAL BEST CHOICE
"The following cartridges exhibited some piercing inconsistency:
ASTRA COOK-WAITE BY KODAK
"We believe that the inconsisrencies in the rubber membrane and
aluminum cap result in the failure of the spike within the Wand cartridge
holder to pierce the rubber membrane. We are in contact with the
manufacturers of these cartridges to review and resolve this situation."
The manufacturer recommends the use of those brands listed that
exhibited minimal piercing inconsistencies....or pre-puncturing of
cartridges using a sterile cotton pliers.
If you have any further questions, or desire a copy of the complete
letter, please E-mail me...or E-mail the manufacturer at 70702.1765@compuserve.com
