RH: Here ar my thoughts, in a nutshell.

1) I'm heavily invested in TAVA who is aggressively with its alliance with RW Beck to provide Y2K remediation to the utility sector (how's that for a plug).

2) In all seriousness, if/when glitches occur, power utilities will be given priority status and I believe the worst case scenario would be a rationing (ie. not unlike the 70's with our gas lines; remember them?). Maybe there would be imposed brown out periods.

I can see with time running out the utilities putting the squeeze on Congress to subsidize for emergency remediation same as the banks did in the late '80's to bail them out of their fiasco.

I just don't foresee prolonged black outs; possibly lots of problems but not an extended period of time with no power. I don't know what your situation at home is but I'm satisfied having a wood stove as as alternative source of heat and I can cook on top of it if need be.

Other than that I will have supplies like flashlights, candles, batteries, non-perishable food, etc. in stock as for any natural disaster. The one special precaution I'll take is to have about a 4 month supply of cash to cover ongoing expenses.

As far as alternative sources of energy such as solar panels, etc. I will be looking into but not rushing to get done. Won't be looking at wind generators per Dan Sheridan's link because the area I'm moving to gets very little wind. I like the idea though.

Probably not much here to address your needs. Hopefully others will respond who plan more or are concerned of greater problems than I believe we'll have (Josef, I know this area is of special interest to you. What are your thoughts?).
