From a recent post on SI at the PIXT thread, Motorola has 300 workers at its FED facility starting to produce FEDs which Motorola is planning to sell to the auto industry for the use in dash displays and navigation in highend vehicles. There are many advantage of FEDs over ALCMDs including wider viewing angle, color, no glare problems and instant picture when turned on. Hopefully Motorola's investment in flat plate displays will pay off in the next few years, to pick up some of the slack of its other lines.
