>>The combination of mkt cap and maturity of some of their product lines should be concern for investors. The at&t outage will force potential BPX buyers to look at ASND, NT and NN more closely. And the introduction of terabit switches at Interop that compete favorably with CSCO's 12000 will surely slow sales growth to ISPs.<<

I should think that any potential buyer of BPX's would be prudent enough to look closely at competitor offerings in any case, regardless of the incident at AT&T. Also, unless I'm missing something here, this incident seems largely attributed to procedural deficiency at AT&T: repeated references to lack of testing and breakdown in the "process" of upgrading the switch software. Is AT&T an ISO9001 company, where such preventative measures are required?

As I understand their position, CSCO is all about end-to-end networking. They are selling from remote branch office up through carrier. Their QoS plans are consistent throughout the layers of the network. Monday they will announce the new 8500 series, and the various modular components will be fully interchangeable across their installed base of switches. This strategy is a necessity if we are to see a viable network convergence in the next 2-3 years. Do LU, NT, NN have similar strategic, integrated offerings?

Long CSCO.
