>>>It looks like they are circumventing both the banks and service providers like Checkfree. Will this trend continue? If so, how does it effect Checkfree.
This is a very good question. And if you don't mind, I'll try to answer your question. I think this trend will continue, many billers will try to circumvent both the banks and service providers. If I was a biller I would try to do the same, why not pay money to a consolidator if people are willing to go directly to your web site.
But in reality will consumers be willing to log onto multiple web sites, with multiple screens and logons to pay each of these bills. Sure you could bookmark each biller website, but this would still require multiple logons/passwords. In addition if you wanted to pay a biller without a website, you will still need CheckFree.
Most consumers will demand one Website, One Password, and a Automatic update to their account (with the biller website, you would be required to manually update your checkbook). This industry is still in it's infancy, so it's hard to predict what will really happen. You should take comfort that the CEO of CheckFree has more experience in this industry than anyone else.
