1. From a design standpoint, the seat is meant to be kept down.

2. Women tend to pee more often than men do, so chances are she'll be using the john again before he does.

3. If only one person--the man--is in charge of seat adjustment, there'll be less role confusion.

4. IF by some chance the guy has missed, and hit the seat, well then HE can be the one to touch it.
