Wiley, I'm not sure. The growth in the OS market is slowing and they are smart enough to know it. MSFT has never developed anything themselves, so they won't spend the money on research. I have a sneaky feeling they will use the cash for some takeovers of "hurting puppy" tech stocks that have good products. After all, if you are a co. struggling against larger competitors and MSFT comes in and makes you an overnight monopoly, that is pretty attractive. Then, if you get the small cos. sales increasing and capitalize them at MSFT's grotesque pe ratio, the stock could have some upside. They tried it with Intuit, but the govt. didn't allow it. But I don't see how the govt. would disallow a takeover of something odd and cheap, like an H&R Block or a scanner co. I think software is the only place they would hit a wall with DOJ. MB
