4. Blood In Asian Streets Prompts Acquisition Drive (NTAIF)
Thursday, April 9, 1998

A great set of financials, a major buyback and an impending
Asian bottom-fishing expedition are among the reasons why
both value investing sage Al Frank and small-cap expert
Richard Geist list Nam Tai Electronics (NTAIF) as their top
pick for April 1998.

The independent provider of manufacturing services to
original equipment manufacturers (OEM) of popular consumer
electronics products like personal organizers and
calculators counts Texas Instruments, Sharp, Seiko and
Nintendo as major, multi-year customers. Nam Tai also plans
to capitalize on the Asian contagion by using $102 million
in the bank to make some top shelf acquisitions and
investments at bargain prices.

Figures like these speak for themselves: the stock trades at
1.3 times book value, 7.5 times current operating earnings
and 6.3 times cash flow, and provides a 17% return on
equity. Revenues grew 23% in 1997, there's no long-term debt
to speak of, and a rights offering just netted the firm
$47.7 million. Citing all this and more, Al Frank recommends
buying NTAIF "up to $21.60" and Richard Geist recommends
buying "at current levels" as a good long-term play.

For more on these recommendations see the following:
"Stock of the Month," April 1998, The Prudent Speculator. Al
Frank recommends out-of-favor, undervalued stocks trading
for low valuations relative to what he thinks the business
will be worth over the next three to five years.
