yes, i remember Microsoft's initiative to get office machines, printers, fax machines to talk to each other.

now the relative merits of Java vs. a variation of Windows in a wired world is something not worth debating unless your business plan calls for setting up tollposts along the internet ... hey maybe Microsoft is on to something.
