Does anyone know what this SMDS technology is? Is the data transmitted over standard phone lines?

As I see it, the real problem with having internet on phone lines (from Bell Atlantic's point of view) is that phone calls follow an exponential plot - most calls are short duration with a few being of long duration. That is what the phone lines were originally designed to. With the internet, more and more calls are of medium to long term duration (changes the exponential) and that is hammering the phone system (many calls can not get through on their 1st attempt - and the problem will only get worse).

Will Bell Atlantic's technology eliminate this particular problem? Or is SMDS designed primarily for corporations to use?

Obviously the customer has a different perception of how they would prefer internet access and unfortunately behemoth corporations like Bell Atlantic are sometimes out of touch with their customers.

Hopefully in the future, Bell Atlantic will be providing press releases on wireless internet from CAWS.

General Question: Would wireless internet cut into Bell Atlantic's profits by decreasing telephone usage?

Regards,
Jeff
