Shredded Monitors

Does it only occur when you are in Netscape? Does it happen if you are not on the net?

Does it only occur on certain sites?

Does it ever occur at SI?

When the scandisc reports the corrupted file do you tell it to fix it?

My guess is that it is not one of the Netscape files. They are probably fragmented as they are the ones open when you have to shut the power off with the switch.

Clear all your caches and run a complete scan on your harddrive to mark any bad sectors.

Are there any device conflicts in the device manager?

Have you installed any new hardware recently?

Try disabling Java

You might want to get the latest video driver. It may be a software conflict between the video driver and something on a particular site.

Someone once reported to me that my web site was locking up his computer. The only thing he could do was power it down. I rewrote the entire site from scratch with a completely different program. Turns out it was the counter (CGI script provided by ATT) that locked up his computer.

I also encounter computer lockups (not the shredded monitor type) if I wander too far from SI. One reason I like it hear is this site never locks up my machine. I spent an hour on the Motley sp? fool site and will not go back..total lock up.
