Albert/ALL - Speaking of new players

Moving forward, the company also will expand its product offering to look at ATM, Gigabit Ethernet and

Aware's ADSL gets Westell win

Aurora, Ill. - Westell International Inc., developers of High Bit-Rate Digital Subscriber Line (HDSL) and Asymmetric DSL (ADSL) access equipment, last week agreed to use the ADSL chip architecture from
Aware Inc. (Cambridge, Mass.) as the basis for a new video-services product. Aware has already been collaborating with Analog Devices Inc. (Norwood, Mass.), a company that has worked with Westell on a
variety of line-access chip sets.

Aware's WaveTel technology uses discrete wavelet algorithms to improve noise immunity and distance for ADSL lines. ADSL is a twisted-pair technology that is being considered as one potential delivery vehicle for interactive television services to the home. The WaveTel ADSL products from Aware will be offered by Westell as an option for purchasers of Westell's standard ADSL line-access products.
