I remember when this company was starting up at MIT -- one of the founders gave a seminar back in '93. He came up with the idea for Molten Metal Technology while working at U.S. Steel -- after watching large batches of liquid metal boiling, he got an idea that this could be used to extract metal from used insulated wires. U.S. Steel never believed the idea would be profitable, and wouldn't support such an operation. Very capable people developed this technology and company. But in the end, I guess the technology was too expensive and never gained industrial support.
