RIK and Greyhairs: RIK, Yes, you can perform a DST on a sour formation. However, it is more expensive and requires what is called a "closed chamber test". It is much less expensive than running pipe to 4300m so I would be surprised if the company did not do a DST.

Greyhairs is correct when saying that the logs could have been run. It is conceivable that they reached TD and ran the open hole logs and already had some interpretation of the logs. This, conceivably, could have been done within 36 hours of reaching TD; perhaps even sooner. Greyhairs, thanks for correcting me on that point. You obviously have a drilling background?
