WOW! What a change in attitude reflected in the 1997 Annual report I received the other day. These guys, being scientific R&D types, must have really got burnt out on the investment community after their IPO. The impression I got from them was that investors were some sort of parasite and to leave them alone. Now I read on page 3, para 4 of the annual report:

In 1998 we will expand our communications efforts with you, our shareholders, and with the investment community. We have instituted a web site that can be reached at www.amacell.com. This communication tool will supplement regular mailings to you.

They did make the statement "In 1997 the company intentionally kept a low profile within the investment community." Their reason being that they wanted to prove themselves first, which I have a little bit of trouble believing. Someone may have smacked them on the back of the head and made them realize how much money they can bring in for R&D with a little bit of communication and civility.

Overall I thought the report was very upbeat, particularly compared to the one from last year, which left me with the impression that they didn't think they were going to make it. Nice to remember what originally attracted me to this company. You gotta love the six (6) full pages of tech talk in the report, these guys are purists.

It does appear that things may be looking up a bit 1) Initiating sales in Ghana, 2) Cummins to meet with selected members of the media and presenting at several investment conferences to tell the AMAR story 3) Better attitude towards shareholders 4) Budgeted for 1998 $125,000 for public and investor relations (remeber these guys define frugality) 5) mention the possibility of ".....growing through alliances with major pharmaceutical companies....."

I feel a little better, for once.
