ATLANTA, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Network Connection, Inc. (TNCi) (Nasdaq: TNCX - news), an industry leading developer and manufacturer of video and multimedia file-server technologies for the airline, cruise line, train, hotel, education, Internet and corporate Intranet environments, announced today that the Boeing Company (NYSE: BA - news) has included its AirView(R) Video/Audio On Demand server as part of the airplane manufacturer's completion Request For Proposal (RFP) for the new B737-73Q Business Jet.
As announced on March 17th, 1998, the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) certified the AirView fully digital In-Flight Communications/Entertainment system for the narrow-body MD-81 aircraft.
The Boeing RFP has been sent to four domestic and two European completion centers for comment. The AirView system specified in the RFP is for installation aboard the Boeing ''Demonstrator'' airplane. Boeing has confirmed orders for 29 B737 models scheduled for delivery beginning August 1998.
''There is no other company of which we are aware that can provide the technically specific LAN capabilities utilizing Ethernet connections of our AirView server,'' stated Wil Riner, chief executive officer of The Network Connection, Inc.
The AirView Information/Entertainment and Business System with its low weight, low power and minimum space requirement is specifically intended for the Business Jet marketplace. The l50-passenger AirView version weighs 1238 lbs., requires 6800 watts of power, and the largest system component, the actual server, measures only 30.75 in. x 7.79 in. x 16.0 in. For the business traveler, AirView provides such real-time communications as contacting remote locations mid-flight, accessing the Internet, as well as 500 hours of movies, videos, games and audio entertainment from which to choose.
TNCi designs, manufactures and distributes the Cheetah(R) family of video server platforms that enable the storage and delivery of up to 700 hours of digital video/audio data to up to 300 simultaneous video/audio users over local area networks. Cheetah servers are used to bring interactive, on-demand, full-motion video training, education and entertainment to the networked client computers in the corporate, home, educational and aircraft (AirView), cruise ship (CruiseView(R)), train (TrainView(R)), and hotel (InnView(TM)), travel-related entertainment and transport environments.
