<You sure do show a lot of contempt for Christianity in your posts. I promise you that someday you will be held accountable for them.>
Well, that certainly seems like a threat to me. Maybe you are so used to threatening people that you have lost touch with how offensive it can be. Who are you to judge me and determine my fate?
I believe the essential message of Jesus is one of love and tolerance and acceptance. He was a leftist rabble rouser for his time, and I do not believe he would recognize much of what he taught, or hoped to leave in his legacy, in contemporary conservative Christianity. Are you aware, incidentally, that only some Christians insist on a strict interpretation of the Bible, or the concept of being born again? There is much dissent within Christianity in how to lead Christian lives, so I don't believe you have a lock on the RIGHT belief system.
I think Jesus would be very happy with me, because I accept outcastes into my heart, nurture tiny kittens who have been abandoned so that they can have long and healthy lives, nurture my child so that she will be strong and confident and do good in the world, and generally try to create beauty instead of ugliness in my life. There is a huge debate among theologians as to how much of Jesus' actual thoughts and words even made it into the Bible, and so many people follow basically Christian philosophies of life without taking every word seriously. Certainly, you can prove anything under the sun with one Bible quote or another, and some of them are directly contradictory. So some people look at Jesus' life and try to extrapolate a compassionate way of living from that.
In regard to my being a foe of Christianity, I believe instead that I am a foe of hatred disguised as Christianity. It is that hatred and intolerance and insistence that Christianity is the ONE TRUE WAY that has caused all the millions of deaths Christianity leaves in its wake, not anything that Jesus believed or taught. So, like you, I believe I am doing something important, and sacred. |
