Here is an e-mail I received just now .... The State of CA forced refineries to get into MTBE for envirormental reasons. All major players (exxon, etc) spent millions on making plants to produce mtbe. Tosco which is becoming a large player, 2 refineries 10 years ago to 7 or so today didnt invest in new plant but instead bought mtbe from other sources. MTBE now has been found to cause cancer and is being found in CA water supplies. This may lead to banning 2 stroke engines in several lakes, etc. MTBE (more than 11% mix) deteriorates plastics and some seals. I remember this awhile back but didnt know the cause. Tosco has gotten several exxon employees to jump ship and work for them. MTBE is big political football because the CA gov said do something and now its not such a good idea. Millions have been spent by companies to produce mtbe Tosco recently puchased a refinery in the midwest?? Tosco lined up with envirmentalists for ethanol push in CA. Maybe Tosco and Midland are in bed together?? More to follow when I get a chance I appreciate all the verifications GB
